This anime is a action comedy.A young boy, whose big sister Aruka is presumably killed during a Testament attack. He is a bit of a wimp, but shows certain qualities and strengths and is the only known survivor of the uprising against Simeon. He remains highly committed to the memory of Aruka -- often addressing her directly in his thoughts -- and is seen carrying a pendant with a picture of her in it. He is often used as a sort of gofer by some of the other team members (most notably Blade and Eve). While shown as physically weak compared to most of the other characters, his keen observational skills and raw intellect more than make up for this deficiency. This is demonstrated a number of times, such as when he helps Eve defeat Uten, as well as during the subsequent battle with the Simeon Girl Squad inside the Simeon structure. However, Cruz suffers tremendous heartbreak upon learning that Aruka, in actuality still alive, has for a long time been a member of Simeon's "Great Ones". During the encounter she addresses him in a condescending and disdainful manner and nearly kills him, in addition to stealing his pendant (which is revealed to contain a data chip with information vital to Simeon). Even though ultimately saved by Eve, at the threshold of death his spirit sees images of the day the uprising was crushed, revealing Aruka's role in it. Witnessing these events causes him to accept, with great sadness, that somewhere along the line, she chose to forsake him for Simeon. Cruz continues to fight alongside Blade, bearing witness to the battle between the Adams, with Blade's companions fighting against Arclight's minions. After the PF Zero blast, the story centers on Cruz trying to find his friends while dealing with his own feelings of helplessness. He locates most of his friends and even manages to make new allies. He is often forced to disguise himself as a girl to survive the killer girl squad academy and is as of the present edition forced to hide behind his girl persona, Yamada. This is in part due to finding out that Simeon is actively hunting for him, but also because his friends are unwilling to help him revert to his original, male persona. Comically, the more perverted characters in the series find "Yamada-ko chan" to be irresistible. He and his crew eventually try to free an oppressed community from a Simeon Needless called Hatfield; but in doing so, this puts him close to Aruka again and forces him to dress up as his sister in order to trick Hatfield's army of cyborgs. Cruz has his right arm dislocated while fighting against Hatfield, even while the latter mocks him about Cruz' admiration for his sister. Blade subsequently reappears mysteriously and, being mistaken as a girl by Blade, Cruz' only option is to put up a cute, girlish act in order to motivate Blade to help him. Cruz also continues crossdressing as a girl against his will, in response to his group's protestations concerning his changing back into normal clothing. He eventually joins up with Saten within Blade's memories in order to discover the mystery behind Eve and her Doppelganger ability. During their trip to save Eve in the past, Cruz, Saten, and Blade are stopped by a vast darkness which they are unable to traverse. It is at this point that a mysterious entity whom only Cruz can see lends him the power to cut through the darkness, allowing them to move on. It is speculated that the power is given in the form of a fragment and is in addition to his power of great mental acuity. After discovering his fragment, he, Blade, Eve, and Disk are attacked by loli sized clones of Aruka and loli Testaments. It is during this battle that he recognizes his power as The Shield of Aegis, which allows him to block anything he directs his hands towards (in contrast to his powerless disposition throughout anime).
